(i) Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective type) for the selection of candidates for the Main Examination; Maximum of 400 marks. Preliminary exam will have two papers. Both the question papers will be of the objective type (multiple choice questions) and each will be of two hours duration. The General Studies Paper-II of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination will be a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%.  The question papers will be set both in Hindi and English.

Syllabus of Preliminary Examination -2019

Paper I - (200 marks) Duration: Two hours
  • Current events of national and international importance.
  • History of India and Indian National Movement.
  • Indian and World Geography-Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.
  • Indian Polity and Governance-Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
  • Economic and Social Development-Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion,Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.
  • General issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialization.
  • General Science

Paper-II-200 Marks
  • Comprehension.
  • Interpersonal skills including communication skills.
  • Logical reasoning and analytical ability.
  • Decision making and problem solving.
  • General mental ability.
  • Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc.)

(ii) Civil Services (Main) Examination (Written and Interview) for the selection of candidates for the various Services. The written examination will consist of 9 papers of conventional essay type in the subjects.
Paper-A (One of the Indian Language to be selected by the candidate from the Languages included in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution) = 300 Marks

Paper-II General Studies-I 250 Marks (Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the World and Society)

Bio-diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management)
Paper-V General Studies -IV 250 Marks (Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude)
Paper-VI Optional Subject - Paper 1 250 Marks
Paper-VII Optional Subject - Paper 2 250 Marks
Sub Total (Written test) 1750 Marks
Personality Test 275 Marks
Grand Total 2025 Marks

Eligibility Conditions:
  • Candidate must be a citizen of India (Indian Administrative Service, the Indian Foreign Service and the Indian Police Service)
  • A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on the 1st of August, 2019.
  • The candidate must hold a degree of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India.
  • Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to Civil Services Examination, 2019

Examination Fees:
Candidates are required to pay fee of Rs. 100/- (Rupees One Hundred only)
Excepting Female/SC/ST/Persons with Benchmark Disability Candidates examination fee are free.
Mode of Payment:  Visa/Master/RuPay Credit/Debit Card or by using Internet Banking of SBI. Internet Banking payment mode on the closing date i.e. till 18:00 Hours of 18.03.2019.
